Vector Graphic


A graphic image formed by a series of points joined by angles and curves, which can be filled with colours and blends. As the picture is made from mathematical formula, it is not dependent on resolution (see Bitmap Graphic) therefore it can be scaled to infinity as a computer can recalculate the mathematical formula for any size.

Short for video blog. This is a type of blog that is made up of short video clips.

 

Viral Marketing


A stragety that encourages individuals to pass on marketing messages to other people. Viral marketing creates the poteintal for expoteinal growth. Like a virus, viral marketing is based on the premise that growth will spread exponetially.

 

Virtual Private Server


Virtual private servers are a means of splitting a single physical server into multiple virtual servers. Virtual private servers are sometimes called virtual dedicated servers. The practice of partitioning a single server so that it appeared as multiple servers was common practice in the days of mainframe computers, but has seen a resurgence lately with the development of software such as User-mode Linux.

A virtual server is a computer server that has been configured to hosts domains available on the internet. This virtual server allows clients to establish their own personal, business or organizations website or domain name (ex.., yourdomain.com).

Web design is the design or designing of a Web page, Website or Web application. The term generally refers to the graphical side of Web development using images, CSS and XHTML.

 

Web Designer


A person or business that designs and prepares content for the World Wide Web, including text, images, site architecture and multimedia.

 

Web host


A web host provides the service that allows you to store the information that makes up your website. A web host stores your website's information on a web server. Each time you type a web address into your browser , the browser asks for your website's information from the web hosts server and then the browser displays it on your screen.

 

Web developer


A web developer can also be a web designer, but a web developer typically has more database, CGI, and engineering experience. He or she develops the interface between the front and back end of a website.Web developers create the funactionality of a website such as creating search boxes for the website or creating shopping carts for an e-commerce website.

Whois


Whois is a program that will tell you the owner of any second-level domain name who has registered it with Network Solutions, formerly the only and still the most widely used of the Internet registrars of the com, net, and org domain names.

 

WYSIWYG


Abbreviation for what you see is what you get. It describes web page editors which are not only text editors. Such as: Dreamweaver.

XSL


Short for Extensible Style Language, a specification for separating style from content when creating HTML or XML pages. The specifications work much like templates, allowing designers to apply single style documents to multiple pages. XSL is the second style specification to be offered by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C. The first, called Cascading Style Sheets, is similar to XSL but does not include two major XSL's innovations allowing developers to dictate the way web pages are printed, and specifications allowing one to transfer XML documents across different applications. W3C released the first draft of XSL in August 1998, and promotes the specifications as helpful to the web's speed, accessibility, and maintenance
