Do you ever get confused by all the terms you see on the web? Well here at Be Seen Web Design, we have created a list of the terms we use on a daily basis and then created a glossary of them for you. If you have any terms you are unsure about just send us an e-mail and we'll explain it to you.

Tables
Used to organise web content into rows and columns. Each cell can contain text, images, or both.
Telnet
With permission, Telnet is the way you can access someone else's computer, ex.. a web server.
Thread
A series of posts, all realated to the smae subject, in a discussion group or forum.
TIF or TIFF
A common way to store bit-mapped graphics images on both PCs and Macintosh computers. TIFF is a platform-independent format, which means a TIFF image created on a PC can be viewed on a Macintosh and vice versa. (Bit-map files, on the other hand, are a graphic format for the Windows environment.) The TIFF format was specifically designed for scanned images and is commonly used for that purpose. It also can be used in some applications to save images created on a computer.
Title Tag
The contents of the Title tag is generally displayed by the browser at the top of the browser window. The search engines use the Title tag to provide a link to the sites which match the query made by the user. Having keywords in the Title tag of a page can significantly increase the search engine ranking of the page for those keywords.
Trackback
A signal sent to another website that you are linking to them.
Traffic
The visitors to a web page or web site. Also refers to the number of visitors, hits, accesses etc. over a given period.
Trojan
A program hidden in another computer program with the purpose of destroying software or collecting inofrmation about the use of the computer.
Unzipping
The act of extracting files from a compressed (zipped ) folder.
Upload
To transfer a file from a desktop computer onto a web server.
URL
An acronym for "Uniform Resource Locator," this is the address of a resource on the Internet. World Wide Web URLs begin with http://
Usability
An overused term to intended to imply that it was easy to use. Websites are user-friendly when the may be used easily by beginners.
User agent
A program that accesses documents on the Web for any purpose. Web browsers, download managers, link checking programs, and indexing robots for search engines are all user agents.
Validator
Is a program that checks the HTML code created by web designers and web developers. It is much like a spell checker except, it checks code. It picks up errors ou would not normally see if you manually proofread the pages. Read more about the importance of creating valid web pages
Vector Graphic
A graphic image formed by a series of points joined by angles and curves, which can be filled with colours and blends. As the picture is made from mathematical formula, it is not dependent on resolution (see Bitmap Graphic) therefore it can be scaled to infinity as a computer can recalculate the mathematical formula for any size.

Vidblog
Short for video blog. This is a type of blog that is made up of short video clips.
Viral Marketing
A stragety that encourages individuals to pass on marketing messages to other people. Viral marketing creates the poteintal for expoteinal growth. Like a virus, viral marketing is based on the premise that growth will spread exponetially.
Virtual Private Server
Virtual private servers are a means of splitting a single physical server into multiple virtual servers. Virtual private servers are sometimes called virtual dedicated servers. The practice of partitioning a single server so that it appeared as multiple servers was common practice in the days of mainframe computers, but has seen a resurgence lately with the development of software such as User-mode Linux.
Virtual Web Server
A virtual server is a computer server that has been configured to hosts domains available on the internet. This virtual server allows clients to establish their own personal, business or organizations website or domain name (ex.., yourdomain.com).
