C/C++


A high-level programming language developed by Bjarne Stroustrup at Bell Labs. C++ adds object-oriented features to its predecessor, C. C++ is one of the most popular programming language for graphical applications, such as those that run in Windows and Macintosh environments.

Cache


A web browser feature that saves copies of the web page on the computer's hard drive.

 

CGI


Common Gateway Interface. Specification for transferring information between a server and a CGI program. A CGI program is any program designed to accept and return data that conforms to the CGI specification. The program could be written in any programming language.

 

 

Click thorough


The number of times a visitor has clicked on an advertisement (or any hyper link) and has been re-directed to your website.

 

Click through rate


The percentage of those clicking on a link out of the total number who see the link. For example, imagine 10 people do a web search. In response, they see links to a variety of web pages. Three of the 10 people all choose one particular link. That link then has a 30 percent clickthrough rate.

 

Cold fushion


Cold Fusion is an application from Macromedia that creates HTML pages from a database. Once a template is defined, Cold Fusion fills that template with content. Catalogs, for example, are easy to build and maintain in Cold Fusion. If a URL ends in .cfm, it is a page that was created with Cold Fusion

 

Comment


A piece of feedback left by a reader on a blog post. These are the heart of the blog's communication which it's user.

 

Comment Spam

 

Comment spam is an irrelevant post in the comment area of a blog or website, in which has nothing to do with the topic and is obvious self promotion. Some of these are automated using spamming software.

 

Compression


A method of packing data in order to save storage space or for faster download time.

 

Content


Usually refers to the text on a web page but, could mean everthing including banners, image and text.

 

Contextual link inventory


To supplement their business models, certain text-link advertising networks have expanded their network distribution to include “contextual inventory”. Most vendors of "search engine traffic" have expanded the definition of Search Engine Marketing to include this contextual inventory. Contextual or content inventory is generated when listings are displayed on pages of websites , where the written content on the page indicates to the ad-server that the page is a good match to specific keywords and phrases. Often this matching method is validated by measuring the number of times a viewer clicks on the displayed ad.

 

 

Cookie


A cookie is a message give to a browser by a web server. The purpose of the cookie is to identify the website users/visitors and possibly prepare customized web pages for them.

 

Crawler


(Also known as a spider) A program that visits websites and reads the information in the web pages to gather information for a search engine index.

 

Crowdsourcing

 

Is when a company using the resources of a group of enthusiasts to create something.

 

CSS


Stands for Cascading Style Sheets. A feature that allows website designers to change the text style for an entire web page.

 

CSS1 parser

 

A user agent that reads CC1 style sheets
